Labor Prayers

I've been collecting a list of prayers to use during labor and thought I would share them here.   The thought is, to offer up the pain of labor, and unite my sufferings to that of Jesus and Mary.  To pray and contemplate holy scripture and prayers during the pain.     Thanks for the comment from Ashley about writing them on index cards, what a great idea!

Here is what I have so far.

First, is a general prayer to be said over the mother in labor:

Loving God, hold the hand of Your servant (mother's name) now and keep her safe; put Your own spirit into her very breathing, and  into her new baby, for whom we wait in awe and hope.  We ask this through
Jesus our Lord.  Amen.

These are various verses that can be used.  The explanation is also listed (below).

From a poster on Babycenter:

I recently started the Hypnobabies Home Study Program and love it so far.  But I see so many ties to the Bible and was sad that the scripts and affirmations didn't just outright quote some Bible verses!!!      I rewrote the "Bubble of Peace" script today.
"BUBBLE OF PEACE"

"it is a bubble created for you by God, a surrounding of his protecting angels... giving you His peace and His protection. When we are here in this bubble, we are untouchable by the evil one. He can not reach us.
When the script discusses the creation of the bubble of peace and enforcing the protection... I added the following statements:

Let us reflect on the promises of our Father. He is our protector and He will fortify our Bubble of Peace. "

It was important for me to remember that HE is the one in charge. :)

Then I added the following verses:

Psalm 5:11

But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you.
Psalm 18:2
The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
Psalm 32:7
You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah
Psalm 18:1-3
I love you, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.
Psalm 32:10
...the LORD's unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts in him.
Psalm 125:2
As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people both now and forevermore
Psalm 144:2
He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me.
2 Thess 3:3
The Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.
Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Psalm 29:11
The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.
Romans 15:13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Psalm 4:8
I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.
Colossians 3:15
And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.
When the script spoke of "my plan" I changed it to "God's plan"
Mark 5:34He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering."
