Caught Smiling

Photobucket

What a ham! A friend of mine snapped a picture of Grant as I was deep in conversation with Fr. Jay. I'm mid-sentence too, always a flattering pose. Lol. What cracks me up is that I had NO idea that Grant was hamming it up for the camera! I always think I'm tuned in to what my boys are doing at all times but low and behold, I almost missed Grant's photo-op! Thanks Joe for sending along the picture!:)

Come Along for the Ride!

There is a great event coming up this fall. It's the Rootstown MOPS and the theme is "The Ultimate Roller Coaster Ride: A Conference for Moms". That alone sets the stage, what a fun theme! Yours truly will deliver the keynote speech (wow)! It's going to be a fun-filled day for sure! For more information, check out the website HERE. I hope to see you there!

To Tell the Tooth

Photobucket

Check out Gabriel's new smile! He lost one of his two front teeth a few months ago, and today the other followed suit! Unfortunately it was helped along by his fall at school (poor guy, got all scraped up). Although, the blow was softened by knowing the tooth fairy was on the way! He even wrote her a note that said "Can you talk? Love, Gabriel". Awww.
He is really fascinated and asking LOTS of questions about the Tooth Fairy and I have to say it's starting to weigh on me a little bit! He looks at Jim and me with those big blue eyes and trusts that we will give him the full truth. What is a parent to do?! Believing in such wonderful things is part of the joy of childhood, but I never considered the way I would feel facilitating the "legend".... I actually have a twinge of guilt! That is all I am going to write for fear he will log on, find my blog, and read this veiled confession for himself! Ha ha.

By the way, check out his haircut too! It's a bit messy but you get the idea, thankfully no bald spots for my first try! :)

Buzzing the Boys

Long time no write! Sorry for the absence, it's been a mix of being busy, and playing outside! We've had such wonderful weather and the boys are loving every minute of it. I've also been trying to take advantage of the sunshine and break out my shorts (my legs are so white)!
Photobucket

This weekend we bought a haircut/clipper set. We keep the boys' hair pretty short and the fequent barber trips are starting to add up. I've been wanting to learn how to do it myself but I've been afraid! Lol.:) When Jim and I were first married he allowed me to cut his hair. He was in the Army and only needed a touch-up....easy, right? Well, let's just say after I was finished he had to sport the bald look for a while! It's true and he swore I would never cut his hair again. So that explains why I've been so apprehensive to try again. Yesterday we went ahead and bought a Wahl clipper kit (with color-coated guards). Thankfully the kits they sell make it easy for even a clipper-challenged woman like me. Gabriel went first and I think it turned out pretty well. Not perfect, but it will do until I improve. Believe it or not I also broke Jim down and cut his hair too! I actually liked his better and started getting the hang of it. Inside the booklet it even says it "takes practice" okay great, how many bad cuts to my boys have to endure before I get it down!? I was pleasantly surprised though, and the clippers are already paid for by using it twice already, not bad! If you have any tips for a fool-proof haircut, please send them my way at: Brooke@955TheFish.com. Enjoy this beautiful day!

Freedom!

The warm weather is finally here! It's about time, wohoo! Although I cringed looking ahead at the forecast, we are supposed to drop back to 40 by next week (arggh). That's okay though, we are taking advantage of it while it lasts. I was also able to get in my first "outside" run of the season. It felt fantastic and long overdue. I remembered why I really love doing it because trust me, the treadmill just doesn't cut it.:) I've stuck with it over the winter, but it gets so boring just looking at the wall. I'm not doing the Cleveland Marathon but I may sign up for some 5 or 10K's over the summer. It gives me a goal to strive for.

I've been under so much stress lately and it's a reminder that we all need a positive outlet! Prayer and my faith is always first, but there is something about getting out on a beautiful day that just engages all of your senses and lifts the mood! I know so many people who are going through hard times in one way or another right now. The economy is a big part of it. Thankfully we have that stimulus package coming. Thank you George!!:)

Our Stick Family

Photobucket
This is so cute! I've seen the car decals and address labels and finally ran across the website. You can customize your own family and pick out traits and accessories for each individual. This is our "stick family" (I'm a runner if you can't tell! Lol). The price tag isn't bad considering it is something personalized and unique. Charecters run $4.75 a person and you can add pets too! Cheesy but cute...right up my alley! Personalize your stick family here: www.OurStickFamily.com

Practical Weight-Loss Advice

It's crunch time on the diet front for me! I always think it's important to stress health over weight-loss, and that's really why I started running. I knew I could lose weight by dieting, but to me that's no good if you are just skinny without being strong (I need all my strength just to keep up with the boys)!:) Parents.com has a good article where they interviewed 18 moms and what helped them lose the baby weight (and keep it off) and get in shape. I'm feeling really... "blahh", if you know what I mean. Lets just say I'm not exactly ready for bathing suit season at the moment! Running will always be my primary workout but I've been really slacking when it comes to weight training. I'm not doing the Cleveland (half) marathon this year though so I do have more flexibility to try something different. Here is the article from Parents if you want to check it out.

I also ran across a really good piece where Madonna's personal trainer reveals great info! She lays out the routine that Madonna uses and it's actually achievable (if you modify it). I'm especially interested in how she looks so toned and muscular (a little but too much for me) but the secret is low weights (3 lbs) and high reps of up to 100. Check it out here.
